Founder & Director
Tommy knew from an early age that camp was his life’s work! After many summers attending and then directing camps in Wisconsin and Colorado, Tommy started Mountain Day Camp in 2005, which evolved into Camp Granite Lake.
“The growth I experienced at camp influences everything I do in work and play. I wouldn’t be who I am, and I wouldn’t have my energetic and independent approach to life without it. Little did I know the influence camp was having on my life – I was just having fun!”
Tommy’s family is actively involved in life at camp. His wife, Ali, is a pediatrician. Their kids are: Joey, age 11, and Mara, age 9. They attend camp, too.
Abbie (she/her) became part of the Camp Granite Lake team in 2017, as a cabin counselor, and has since transitioned into a year-round position and now is an Assistant Director. She grew-up in a canoe in Minnesota and enjoys teaching waterfront activities on our lake! In her free time, Abbie loves playing board games, hiking, and talking about dragonflies. During the off-season, Abbie lives in Denver and spends her weekends learning to ski and identifying wildflowers.
Abbie has been singing camp songs for over 20 years and can’t wait to learn new ones from you!
Ellie joined the Camp Granite Lake team in April 2022 as one of our Assistant Directors. She has a background in teaching high school Physical Education, and previously spent five summers working at sleep-away camps on the East Coast where she met her husband, Ben. Ellie is originally from ‘across the pond’ (England!), and moved to Denver in 2020. She loves to travel, the sunshine and making the most of all the outdoor activities Colorado has to offer.
Ellie has loved her two summers at CGL, and can’t wait to see familiar and new faces in summer 2024!
Barry started at Camp Granite Lake in 2016 as a cabin counselor and has since joined the year-round team as the Admin Director. A California native, Barry now calls Colorado his home. Barry and his roommate find joy in providing a foster home for senior cats, as he is an avid cat lover. In his free time, Barry is either rock climbing, stamp carving, antiquing, or finding new board games to play with friends. Barry loves the community of Camp Granite Lake and can often be found playing card games with campers or taking pictures on the lake.
Barry is excited to be back around the campfire singing songs with friends, both new and old, this next summer!
