Tommy knew from an early age that camp was his life’s work! After many summers attending and then directing camps in Wisconsin and Colorado, Tommy started Mountain Day Camp in 2005, which evolved into Camp Granite Lake.
“The growth I experienced at camp influences everything I do in work and play. I wouldn’t be who I am, and I wouldn’t have my energetic and independent approach to life without it. Little did I know the influence camp was having on my life – I was just having fun!”
Tommy’s family is actively involved in life at camp. His wife, Ali, is a pediatrician. Their kids are: Joey, age 7 (starting his first year at camp this summer), and Mara, age 5. They live up at camp all summer, too.
Hey, my name is AJ Alamar and I am a sophomore at the University of Maryland studying criminology and history. I spend my free time running, learning to play the guitar, and reading. I love spending time outdoors hiking, swimming, or just hanging with friends. This will be my first summer at Camp Granite Lake and I’m excited to spend the summer in such a beautiful place!

Hey there! My name is Kelly, and I’m from Vienna, Virginia. Currently, I’m getting ready to graduate from Virginia Tech (Go Hokies!) with a degree in Human Development. When I’m not in class, I can often be found rehearsing with my school’s theatre department or taking advantage of living right next to the Blue Ridge Mountains. My favorite activities are singing off-key, dancing badly, running slowly, and having as much fun as possible. I look forward to spending my summer at Camp Granite Lake and meeting all of the amazing staff and campers.
Hiii! My name is Katie, I am from Westchester, New York. I am currently a junior at a small school in Western NY called Geneseo. I am a psychology major with a biology minor and hope one day to work as a pediatric psychologist. I also do research at my school with a professor in which we study human behavior. I was a camper for a number of years when I was younger, and soon graduated to becoming a counselor which I have been doing over the summers for about 5 years now. I have always loved working with kids, and definitely cherish the relationships I have built with my past campers and co-counselors. I love being outside and going on hikes, walks, and bike rides. I will never say no to rollerblading, ever. I also totally appreciate a good movie or some good music! I can’t wait to meet everybody and am looking forward to an awesome summer!
Abbie became part of the Camp Granite Lake team in 2017, as a cabin counselor, and has since transitioned into a year-round position as Administrative Director. She grew-up in a canoe in Minnesota and enjoys teaching waterfront activities on our lake! In her free time, Abbie loves playing board games, hiking and talking about dragonflies. Abbie has been singing camp songs for 20 years and can’t wait to learn new ones from you!
Hi! My name is Jordan Chamberlain and I am currently a freshman at the University of Colorado Boulder majoring in elementary education. In my free time, I enjoy reading, writing stories, spending time with my family and friends, listening to music, and watching TV shows and movies. The outdoors is somewhere I spent a lot of time growing up, during my annual backpacking trips with my dad, playing games with my younger brother, and car-camping with my family. I spent a year at CGL as a camper and the subsequent year as a counselor-in-training (CIT), and I am so excited to continue my camp journey as a counselor! Hey! My name is Grace Coleman and I’ll turn 20 years old at camp this summer. I am from Bowling Green, Kentucky and am a sophomore at Northern Kentucky University studying sociology with minors in GIS and honors. I have been going to camps similar to Camp Granite Lake my entire life and can’t wait to be a counselor this summer! I have lifeguarded and given swim lessons in my hometown the last three summers and look forward to seeing you guys out on the lake during camp. Joshua Grant is the bestselling author and comic creator of numerous books. He has survived a flash flood, encountered numerous bears, and sailed the ocean blue. Josh loves to read, write, play video games, and occasionally read up on the crazy science that’s happening in the world, but most of all he loves just getting people together to love, laugh, and grow alongside each other. Currently, Josh makes a living teaching and working with kids in various environments, with the occasional novel and comic always in the works. Josh has spent many summers working at Camp Granite Lake and is so looking forward to building some forts, canoeing, making skits, playing games, launching rockets, and having some laughs with campers and staff!

I have spent my life with kids–in my nursing career (school nurse, children’s psych., pediatrics and homeless outreach) and in my life as a mom to 4, foster parent, and gramma of 7. Hello my name is Jim. I was born and raised in Chicago, IL. I worked as a farm hand until I joined the U.S. Navy after high school. In my years serving in the Navy I was a Jet Engine Mechanic, Search and Rescue Helicopter Crewman, Instructor for the A-7 Attack Jet, Aviation Officer Candidate, Navigator, Tactical Coordinator and later Mission Commander for the P-3 Anti-Submarine Aircraft, Maintenance Division Officer of 87 men, Joint Service Airborne Navigation Instructor, Student at Air Command and Staff College (War College), Weapons Officer USS Saratoga and Operations Officer for an operational squadron. After the Navy I got into the mortgage business and opened my own mortgage brokerage. Later, after I retired, I ran my own small business buying, fixing and selling cars, trucks and sail boats.
A few years ago my wife and I decided it sounded like fun to work for a kid’s camp for the summer. We enjoyed working at Camp Granite Lake last year and are looking forward to returning to the mountains this summer.
Hello! My name is AJ. I was born and raised in Iowa, and I’m currently a junior studying Elementary Education at Iowa State University. When I’m not in class or studying for an upcoming exam, you’ll probably find me coaching soccer, a sport which I have played since I was four years old. My other interests include listening to podcasts, climbing, playing video games, and spending time with friends. I’m incredibly excited to be spending my summer at Camp Granite Lake making new friends and epic memories!
Barry became part of the Camp Granite Lake family in 2016. He is excited to return as the Senior Village Director for his 4th year at camp. In 2020 Barry relocated to California from Portland, Oregon, and began pursuing a degree in Graphic Design. Barry enjoys making art, out of tune singing, and sparkling water. He is excited to return to the Rocky Mountains for another great summer at Camp Granite Lake and can’t wait to see you all soon.
Jen Kling: by winter, a philosophy professor at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, by summer, a Village Director at Camp Granite Lake! When not under cover of her philosophical alter-ego, Jen loves introducing campers to different camp activities, running awesome all-camp games, and listening to the great things that campers have to say. She is the Village Director for the Intermediate campers, and also manages the lakefront, due to a short stint as Aquaman’s understudy in her youth (Jen worked for a sailing camp in Indiana for several summers in high school and college). When not creating cool camp teambuilding challenges with the greatest of ease, Jen enjoys hanging out with her daughter Kaylee, age 5, her husband Patrick, and her dog Knight (all of whom are likely superheros, but some of whom are not so disguised). She can’t wait to get back to camp this summer!

My name is Aydan Peterson and I am from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I am currently a freshman at the University of St Thomas in St Paul, Minnesota. I plan on majoring in Biology or Environmental Science. When I’m not in class I enjoy running, swimming, and hiking. In the summer months I enjoy sailing on Lake Michigan with my friends. I also love trying new things and that is why I am so excited to be spending my summer at Camp Granite Lake.
Tom has been working summers at Camp Granite Lake since 2011, and has been a part of the year-round team, first as Program Director, and now as Assistant Director since 2013. During the summer, you’ll frequently see Tom with a guitar in his hand leading one of his favorite camp songs, like ‘Sloopy’ or ‘Heart of Gold’. During the off season, Tom works with prospective and enrolled families, giving them tours of camp and visiting them for slideshows, as well as interviewing and hiring staff.
Tom and his wife, Jordan live in Denver, CO during the off season with their kids, Arlo and Eleanor, and dogs, Gehrig and Levon. He enjoys playing guitar, digging through record shops, rooting for the Broncos, and running in his free time.

I’m currently a sophomore at the University of The Rio Grand Valley and I will be transferring next fall as an athlete to the University of San Antonio. I am majoring in criminal Justice. Bennett is excited for his first summer at Granite Lake! As a kid, Bennett spent his summers at a camp in Wisconsin where he later became a counselor and a teen leadership program director. Bennett studied Communications and Non-profit Management at The University of Iowa. After graduating, he worked for environmental action committees and on political campaigns in Wisconsin leading up to the 2020 elections. In his free time, Bennett loves playing music, cooking, going for hikes and camping. He can’t wait to meet everyone at Granite Lake this summer!
Howdy, I’m Sara! I’m from Fruita, Colorado, and I’m currently a second-year student at Colorado State University studying Journalism & Media Communication with a minor in Global Studies. Outside of school, I love photography, baking, and anything in nature! Growing up in Colorado, I spent a lot of time camping, hiking, and trying out all sorts of different activities outside, and I can’t wait to share these passions with campers, fellow counselors, and the entire staff at CGL!
Isabel is thrilled to return to Camp Granite Lake this year in a new role, as the Junior Village Director! Since her last summer at CGL in 2018, she has graduated from University-Wisconsin Eau Claire with a degree in Elementary Education and now teaches 2nd Grade. She currently resides in Madison, WI with her cat Larry. When not at camp, you can find her running, hiking, climbing, knitting, or playing cribbage. She is more than excited to have yet another wonderful summer with the campers and staff at CGL.

Krista has been working in summer camp since she was seventeen years old. She graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelors of Science in Recreation Management. She has held many roles at camp including Pilates Instructor, Barn Director, Adventure Staff, Registrar, Program Manager and more. She loves singing songs, putting on costumes, and using her imagination. She recently moved to Arvada, Colorado with her husband Phil, whom she met at camp, and her dog Miles.
