Tommy knew from an early age that camp was his life’s work! After many summers attending and then directing camps in Wisconsin and Colorado, Tommy started Mountain Day Camp in 2005, which evolved into Camp Granite Lake.
“The growth I experienced at camp influences everything I do in work and play. I wouldn’t be who I am, and I wouldn’t have my energetic and independent approach to life without it. Little did I know the influence camp was having on my life – I was just having fun!”
Tommy’s family is actively involved in life at camp. His wife, Ali, is a pediatrician. Their kids are: Joey, age 7 (starting his first year at camp this summer), and Mara, age 5. They live up at camp all summer, too.
Hey! My name is Jeanine Aldaco, I am from Puebla, Mexico. I am 21 years old and I am studying Industrial Engineering. In my free time I like to go to the gym, practice a new language, watch movies, and spending time outdoors. I enjoy cooking and having good times with my friends. Hello! My name is Andrea Barton and I am a freshman at the University of North Carolina Wilmington majoring in Environmental Science with a minor in Spanish. I like to spend my free time being outdoors, running, reading, and painting! I come from a military family so I was born in Florida, but I have lived in North Carolina, California, and Spain too! I am excited to meet everyone at Camp Granite Lake this summer!
Hey there! My name is Kelly, and I’m from Vienna, Virginia. Currently, I’m getting ready to graduate from Virginia Tech (Go Hokies!) with a degree in Human Development. When I’m not in class, I can often be found rehearsing with my school’s theatre department or taking advantage of living right next to the Blue Ridge Mountains. My favorite activities are singing off-key, dancing badly, running slowly, and having as much fun as possible. Hi families! My name is Kylie Campos (pronounced like “Keylime Pie” without the M). I am a Speech-Language Pathologist from sunny Southern California. I graduated with a Master of Science degree in Communicative Disorders from San Francisco State University and I have 8+ years of experience working with children of various ages in different settings. In my free time, I love spending time with my adventure dog Odin. We enjoy road tripping, hiking, kayaking, camping, and we even went on a UTV ride together! I love collecting house plants and stickers from all of my road trips. I enjoy living a peaceful life with tons of adventure. I am so excited for the opportunity to work as a counselor at Camp Granite Lake. See you in the summer!
Abbie became part of the Camp Granite Lake team in 2017, as a cabin counselor, and has since transitioned into a year-round position as Administrative Director. She grew-up in a canoe in Minnesota and enjoys teaching waterfront activities on our lake! In her free time, Abbie loves playing board games, hiking and talking about dragonflies. Abbie has been singing camp songs for 20 years and can’t wait to learn new ones from you!
Hi! My name is Jordan Chamberlain and I am currently a freshman at the University of Colorado Boulder majoring in elementary education. In my free time, I enjoy reading, writing stories, spending time with my family and friends, listening to music, and watching TV shows and movies. The outdoors is somewhere I spent a lot of time growing up, during my annual backpacking trips with my dad, playing games with my younger brother, and car-camping with my family. I spent a year at CGL as a camper and the subsequent year as a counselor-in-training (CIT), and I am so excited to continue my camp journey as a counselor! Joshua Grant is the bestselling author and comic creator of numerous books. He has survived a flash flood, encountered numerous bears, and sailed the ocean blue. Josh loves to read, write, play video games, and occasionally read up on the crazy science that’s happening in the world, but most of all he loves just getting people together to love, laugh, and grow alongside each other. Currently, Josh makes a living teaching and working with kids in various environments, with the occasional novel and comic always in the works. Josh has spent many summers working at Camp Granite Lake and is so looking forward to building some forts, canoeing, making skits, playing games, launching rockets, and having some laughs with campers and staff!

I have spent my life with kids–in my nursing career (school nurse, children’s psych., pediatrics and homeless outreach) and in my life as a mom to 4, foster parent, and gramma of 7. Hello my name is Jim. I was born and raised in Chicago, IL. I worked as a farm hand until I joined the U.S. Navy after high school. In my years serving in the Navy I was a Jet Engine Mechanic, Search and Rescue Helicopter Crewman, Instructor for the A-7 Attack Jet, Aviation Officer Candidate, Navigator, Tactical Coordinator and later Mission Commander for the P-3 Anti-Submarine Aircraft, Maintenance Division Officer of 87 men, Joint Service Airborne Navigation Instructor, Student at Air Command and Staff College (War College), Weapons Officer USS Saratoga and Operations Officer for an operational squadron. After the Navy I got into the mortgage business and opened my own mortgage brokerage. Later, after I retired, I ran my own small business buying, fixing and selling cars, trucks and sail boats.
A few years ago my wife and I decided it sounded like fun to work for a kid’s camp for the summer. We enjoyed working at Camp Granite Lake last year and are looking forward to returning to the mountains this summer.
Hello! My name is AJ. I was born and raised in Iowa, and I’m currently a junior studying Elementary Education at Iowa State University. When I’m not in class or studying for an upcoming exam, you’ll probably find me coaching soccer, a sport which I have played since I was four years old. My other interests include listening to podcasts, climbing, playing video games, and spending time with friends. I’m incredibly excited to be spending my summer at Camp Granite Lake making new friends and epic memories!
Barry became part of the Camp Granite Lake family in 2016. He is excited to return as the Senior Village Director for his 4th year at camp. In 2020 Barry relocated to California from Portland, Oregon, and began pursuing a degree in Graphic Design. Barry enjoys making art, out of tune singing, and sparkling water. He is excited to return to the Rocky Mountains for another great summer at Camp Granite Lake and can’t wait to see you all soon.
Jen Kling: by winter, a philosophy professor at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, by summer, a Village Director at Camp Granite Lake! When not under cover of her philosophical alter-ego, Jen loves introducing campers to different camp activities, running awesome all-camp games, and listening to the great things that campers have to say. She is the Village Director for the Intermediate campers, and also manages the lakefront, due to a short stint as Aquaman’s understudy in her youth (Jen worked for a sailing camp in Indiana for several summers in high school and college). When not creating cool camp teambuilding challenges with the greatest of ease, Jen enjoys hanging out with her daughter Kaylee, age 5, her husband Patrick, and her dog Knight (all of whom are likely superheros, but some of whom are not so disguised). She can’t wait to get back to camp this summer!

During my free time I like to paint and volunteer at sports leagues for people with disabilities. I also love to go hiking, camping, and rock climbing with my friends. My name is Aydan Peterson and I am from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I am currently a freshman at the University of St Thomas in St Paul, Minnesota. I plan on majoring in Biology or Environmental Science. When I’m not in class I enjoy running, swimming, and hiking. In the summer months I enjoy sailing on Lake Michigan with my friends. I also love trying new things and that is why I am so excited to be spending my summer at Camp Granite Lake.
Tom has been working summers at Camp Granite Lake since 2011, and has been a part of the year-round team, first as Program Director, and now as Assistant Director since 2013. During the summer, you’ll frequently see Tom with a guitar in his hand leading one of his favorite camp songs, like ‘Sloopy’ or ‘Heart of Gold’. During the off season, Tom works with prospective and enrolled families, giving them tours of camp and visiting them for slideshows, as well as interviewing and hiring staff.
Tom and his wife, Jordan live in Denver, CO during the off season with their kids, Arlo and Eleanor, and dogs, Gehrig and Levon. He enjoys playing guitar, digging through record shops, rooting for the Broncos, and running in his free time.

Isabel is thrilled to return to Camp Granite Lake this year in a new role, as the Junior Village Director! Since her last summer at CGL in 2018, she has graduated from University-Wisconsin Eau Claire with a degree in Elementary Education and now teaches 2nd Grade. She currently resides in Madison, WI with her cat Larry. When not at camp, you can find her running, hiking, climbing, knitting, or playing cribbage. She is more than excited to have yet another wonderful summer with the campers and staff at CGL.

Krista has been working in summer camp since she was seventeen years old. She graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelors of Science in Recreation Management. She has held many roles at camp including Pilates Instructor, Barn Director, Adventure Staff, Registrar, Program Manager and more. She loves singing songs, putting on costumes, and using her imagination. She recently moved to Arvada, Colorado with her husband Phil, whom she met at camp, and her dog Miles.
