What a great first day at camp! The 2015 Camp Granite Lake staff was very excited to welcome families and friends to Opening Day! Thank you all for helping make today go so smoothly, and taking part in a great kick off to the summer. With so many new campers as well as returning ones, getting settled into cabins made for a lot to talk about. After some cabin games and songs, campers and counselors moved to the Big Hall for Camp Orientation. Campers enjoyed meeting the staff, taking part in learning about the camp rules, and hearing about what makes Camp Granite Lake such a special community to be a part of.

After some unpacking, get-to-know-you activities, and cabin decorating, it was already time for dinner. Everyone enjoyed a delicious pasta dinner, with garlic bread and salad. We learned a lot about what it means to eat “family style” here at camp, and how everyone takes part in our dining hall routines. We celebrated a camper birthday, and all enjoyed some brownies!

From dinner, it was off to the amphitheater for our opening campfire. Music, skits, stories and sing-a-longs were an excellent way to officially welcome everyone to camp. We ended the evening with “Lean On Me” before heading back to our cabins to create some cabin puzzles. Every camper decorated their own puzzle piece that was added to their cabin wall. With a busy day ahead of team building activities for the two-week campers and fishing, archery, and climbing for the one-week campers, everyone is in bed early and excited for what lies ahead!
