What an amazing few days it’s been here at Camp Granite Lake, and we really can’t believe how fast this session went by. Thursday afternoon, we welcomed back our group of awesome backpackers with Susie & Jake, and the 2-week campers enjoyed their final day of activities. The 1-weekers tried canoeing, climbing, archery, and nature & ecology. Some of the 1-week boys even got to dissect a snake with Sam!
Thursday evening was our Camp Talent Show, and wow, do we have some talented campers! Many musicians and singers, dancers, some comedy yoga, origami, some hilarious performances from this week’s Theatre classes, crazy stretching, some funny story telling, and a lot more! Thanks to everyone who participated, and to our awesome hosts, Judith & Eunice!
Friday morning made for quite the day, with all of the 2-weekers going to the Gilpin County indoor pool. They enjoyed spending all morning there, eating a picnic lunch, and returning in time for rest hour. While they were gone, 1-weekers had a “Camp-A-Palooza” and did a little bit of everything that they may not have tried yet. Fishing with Cassidy, canoeing with Jordan, archery, climbing, arts & crafts, nature & ecology, and more! They had a great time having camp to themselves and enjoying a lunch all together in the dining hall.
Our Formal Friday meal was particularly delicious this week, with pot roast, sweet potatoes, cauliflower, salad, homemade bread, and cake for dessert. Thanks kitchen staff!!
This evening’s campfire, with the beautiful sunset in the background, was certainly a special one- celebrating Authentic Connections. Campers and counselors shared stories, read quotes, played music, and spent one last evening at camp all together. Tommy honored Jen & Tom for their 5 years of being part of the camp family with our new tradition of 5 year wool blankets! Everyone shared one last Keylog Ceremony, acknowledging someone that has helped them and brightened their day over the last two weeks. We closed with “Lean On Me,” led by Tom, and headed back to our cabins in the sunset. A few cabins enjoyed a night hike up to Thunder Ridge to appreciate the sunset to the fullest.
We can’t wait to see everyone next summer, and thank you all for an awesome two weeks!
